Friday 23 February 2024 Year 6 First Year 6 completed a First Aid course today and have been awarded the ‘Mini First Aider’ certificate in ‘Basic Life Support’. In this session, the children watched Sarah’s story, which showed them how basic first aid support saved her dad when he fell unconscious. The children have learnt how to check consciousness, open airways, the recovery position and to perform the cardio aspect of CPR. They were able to use their prior learning in science to identify why it was important to get the heart beating again if someone shows signs of cardiac arrest because our blood carries oxygenated blood. All of the children portrayed the BRIDGE values through their respect, growing together and independence in carrying out these important tasks sensibly. We are really proud of them all ??

We started with a Kahoot quiz to see how much the parents knew about our topics (including science, geography, music, Spanish, RE, DT and art) – it was a competitive battle with some able assistance from the children! We then ‘exploded’ the volcanoes we had made in geography by creating a chemical reaction with bicarbonate of soda and vinegar, before admiring the woodwork skills that had created our truss bridges in DT. Thank you to all the parents and carers that attended – it was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and the children were thrilled to share their learning with you.

Using metal as a conductor, the created a design, a game and a circuit in order for their game to work. The aim of the game is to not let the handle touch the metal game, otherwise the light bulb would shine and you would have to try again. Year 4 had lots of fun learning about electrical components and conductors and trying their luck and steady hands! Well done year 6 on your successful games
