Year 2 Book Week 2022

For Book Week, Year 2 looked at one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most loved fairy tales “The Princess and the Pea”. The story tells of a prince who wants to marry a princess but is having difficulty finding a suitable wife. One stormy night, a young woman drenched with rain, seeks shelter in the prince's castle. She claims to be a princess, so the Queen decides to test her by placing a pea in the bed she is offered for the night, covered by huge mattresses and quilts. The princess passes the test, they get married and live happily ever after.

As a year group, we discussed the moral of the story: not to judge people based on their appearance or how little things can make a big difference. We then described one of the main characters: the prince or the princess. We have also made stick puppets and used these to act out the story. Finally, we retold the story and shared them with the rest of the class.

On Tuesday we were fortunate to receive a visit by Jo Clarke, an author who has just released “Spellboda”, an adventure story for children, with themes like protecting wild life and learning how to trust and believe in ourselves.

On Friday, we all dressed up as characters from our favourite book.

As it has been such a wonderful adventure, we thought of sharing it with you!
