Year 3 Book Week 2022

Last week, Year 3 enjoyed learning all about Hans Christian Andersen and his exciting tale of ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’ during Book Week. At the beginning of the week, we learnt all about the amazing author, play write and poet, Hans Christian Andersen and created fact files about his early life and career, we even attempted to draw portraits of him. Did you know that early on in his life, Hans used to put on puppet shows for children using stories written by his dad?

We decorated our doors to recreate one of Hans’ famous fairytales, other classes and visitors had to guess the fairytale. We recreated scenes from ‘The Ugly Duckling’ and ‘The Snow Queen.’

Later in the week, we read the story of The Emperor’s New Clothes and learnt the importance of not believing everything we are told, especially by complete strangers. We also thought that the main message of the story was to always tell the truth, even if we are worried about the consequences.

After reading the story, we created advertisements persuading people to buy our exquisite magical clothes. We used phrases such as ‘50% off’ and encouraged our readers to buy our clothes by telling them that they would be ‘the talk of the town.’

On Friday, we enjoyed dressing up as our favourite book characters. We came dressed as Harry Potter, Lightning Girl, Dog Man, Hermione Granger and Mr Twit, to name just a few.

We hope you enjoy looking over the work that we produced over the week and the pictures of all of our wonderful costumes.
